Weight Loss Warning
This is something that I consider to be a weight loss
secret, but it's not the type of secret that you'd expect.
Here it is: exercise doesn't really make you lose weight.
It's great for fitness but it doesn't burn enough calories to achieve weight
loss.
This isn't the case for everyone, since no
rule applies to every person on the planet. However, generally speaking, you
just don't burn enough calories in a normal workout or even a long, rigorous
workout for it to make much of a difference. On
top of that, our bodies are very good at adjusting their metabolisms to keep
up with whatever we're requiring them to do. If you start exercising a lot,
your body will adjust itself to make sure it can do that work and also hold
onto its fat stores. How does this happen? I
don't know. I'm not a scientist, and I don't think that scientists even
really know the answer. But I have seen this happen to me and others and its
very clear. For example, one summer I rode my
bike 60 miles per week. These were hard rides including long hills and a lot
of fast riding. I ate normally. I did not lose any weight at all.
That's just one example -- this has happened to me many times.
I wish this wasn't the case because I'm very good at
making myself exercise a lot, but I'm bad at making myself eat certain foods
or certain amounts of foods. I wish I'd known this when I started trying to
lose weight, though. It would have saved me literally years of frustration
and confusion. As far as I can tell, your diet
makes up about 80-90% of your weight loss. That is the important thing to
focus on. (Check out the diet plans I
have recommended in the store.) The good
news: If you're the type of person who really hates exercise, then you might
be able to workout less. You'll have to see how your body responds. My
opinion is that if you're exercising a ton but not losing weight, you might
not need to exercise so much. Also take a look
at this article (Why
Exercise Won't Make You Thin) for more information.
One doctor has
even claimed that exercise can prevent weight loss in certain body types
because of the extra stress it causes. Whether
you believe this or not, I urge you to experiment with it for yourself. You
might discover some useful information. |
